The Writing Settings is where you control your writing experience.

You can change these settings at any time by going to Settings > Writing, make your desired changes and then click Save Changes.

Formatting

Formatting

There are two formatting options:

  1. Controls if WordPress converts emoticons to graphics.  By default, all newly created sites are set to convert emoticons to graphics.
  2. Controls if WordPress fixes any invalid XHTML code.  Invalid XMTML code can cause problems with your layout.  By default, all newly created sites are set to not fix any invalid XHTML code.   We recommend you select this option.

The default post category lets you select the category that WordPress uses as default when you forget to choose a category when you publish a new post.

By default, the default post category on all newly created sites is uncategorized.   In most situations we recommend you keep the default post category as uncategorized.

The default post format lets you select the post format to be applied to a post if you forget to pick a post format before publishing.

Default Link Category

Default link category

The default link category lets you select the category that WordPress uses as default when you forget to choose a category when you create a new link.

By default, the default link category on all newly created sites is blogroll   In most situations we recommend you keep the default link category as  blogroll.   A blogroll was originally used by bloggers to provide a list of links to their favorite bloggers.  Nowadays the term blogroll refers to any list of links that appear in the sidebar of a site.

Default Editor For All Users

Select Block Editor

The default editors for all users is used to switch between the block editor and the classic editor. You can learn more about the different types of editors here.

Allow Users to Switch Editors

By default, only admin users are able to switch between the classic editor and the block editor.  If you want editors, authors and contributors to switch between editors you need to select Yes.

Switch Editors

This adds an option to change default editor to Profile > Your Profile for your other site users .
