This FAQ is provides quick and clear answers to some of the commonest questions and issues that edubloggers ask in the Edublogs forum. Please take the time to read the responses because they are most likely your questions also!
Q: What’s the difference between Edublogs.org and Edublogs Campus
Edublogs Campus provides the greatest control over how much access and level of responsibility you assign students. As the person in charge of the site you are able to log into any blog, change how visible any post is, approve or delete comments, change user access, update their passwords and email addresses etc. It also makes it considerably easier to set up and manage a large number of blogs.
You don’t have this same level of control with standard Edublogs blogs.
Q: I haven’t received an activation email? where is it?
The most likely reason for this is that you either inserted the wrong email address when creating your blog or your email account is blocking emails from us thinking they are spam.
First, try to create a new blog again… if it says your email is already in use then please try using a free email account, like those offered by Gmail or Yahoo (they don’t mark us as spam).
Q: My students don’t have email addresses, what can I do?
Simply set up a Gmail account, for example james.edublogs@gmail.com and then add a + sign and a number and/or letter to the end of your email name.
For example: james.edublogs+1@gmail.com, james.edublogs+2@gmail.com etc.
Or: james.edublogs+johndoe@gmail.com, james.edublogs+sallanne@gmail.com etc.
This way Edublogs will think that each email is a new one, and all email usernames and password will go easily to the one gmail account that you manage.

Q: Why are there ads on my blog!
All free Edublogs users have both Google Adsense and content ad links on their blogs. You will not see ads on any blog you are logged in to or have visited more than once. To remove the ads you either need to become an Edublogs supporter or have the ads disabled by an Edublogs supporter.
Q: Why hasn’t my blog been upgraded to an Edublogs Supporter? I paid using PayPal!
The most likely reasons are:
- You are expecting to see Total space available written as 5 GB whereas it says 5,120 MB – this is the same as 5 GB
- You are checking the wrong blog. Supporter status is on a per blog basis not per user. Which blog becomes a supporter depends on which blog dashboard you were in when you signed up to be a supporter
- You didn’t complete the entire subscription process. Make sure if you pay by Credit Card that you complete the final step by signing up for a PayPal account.
- PayPal is taking time to process your payment. How long it takes to activate your Edublogs supporter status depends on which PayPal payment option is used. Normally it is almost instanteous however Echecks can take several days.
Q: Now I am an Edublogs Supporter how do I turn off ads on my blog?
Ads are automatically disable on your blog once your Edublogs supporter subscription has been processed.
To remove ads on up to 30 other blogs go to your Supporter Tab > Disable Ads. Enter name of the blog, for example http://theedublogger.edublogs.org/ would be entered as theedublogger.edublogs.org and click search. Once the correct blog is found select that blog and click disable ads.
You can change which blogs you disable ads on at any time in the Disable Ads tab.
Q: Can I share the storage space on my Edublogs Supporter blog with my other blogs or student blogs?
No. Storage space can’t be shared across different blogs however you can upload images, audio, videos and documents to the supporter blog and link to their location from the other blogs.
Q: How do I create blogs for my students?
If you are an Edublogs supporter you can create as many blogs as you like for your students, in batches of 15, using the Blog & User Creator inside your dashboard (Click on Users > Blog & User Creator).
Free Edublog users need to create student blogs using the Edublogs signup page. Remember to log out of your account before creating each blog.

Q: How do I add students as users to my class blogs?
If you only want your students to comment on posts you don’t need them to be added as users. They just need to add their name and email address when they write comments.
However if you want them to also be able to write posts on the blog they will need to be added as users. You have a couple of options for creating their username:
- Create only usernames – using the Edublogs signup page. Remember to log out of your account and select ‘Just a username’. This will require you to create one user at a time.
- Create blog and username, in batches of 15 students, using Blog & User creator (for Edublogs Supporters only). Make sure you select the option to add yourself as admin. Once their blogs have been activated, go each blog and change their role to subscriber – this will restrict their access to these blog until you are ready for them to use.
To add users to your blog log into your dashboard and:
- For Edublogs Supporters – Click on Users > Add Users and add the email addresses you used to create the student accounts. This allows you to add in batches of 15.
- For Free Edublogs users – Click on Users. Scroll to the bottom of the page and add the email addresses you used to create the student accounts. This allows you to add users one at a time.

Q: Doesn’t matter what I do I can’t seem to get images to add to my posts, HELP!
The main problem with adding images is issues with Abode, Wordpress and how the flash uploader works.
If you are getting a white screen when you try to insert an image try each of the following:
- After clicking on the Add an Image button choose the option to use the Browser uploader – this tends to have less problems
- If still having a problem try clearing your cache, then close your web browser, restart up your web browser and log back into your blog dashboard.
- here are the instructions for clearing your cache in Internet Explorer 6
- For FireFox and Internet Explorer 7 you can click on Ctrl + F5 keys together – this refreshes the page and clears the cache.
- Alternatively follow these instructions for clearing your cache in Internet Explorer 7.
- If clearing cache doesn’t work try updating your version of Adobe Flash.
Q: I can’t upload any photos, word documents, audio or videos to posts or pages. It says that “it is full”
It’s full” indicates you have used up your storage space. If you check on the left hand side of the main page of your blog dashboard it shows your ‘Total Storage space available’ and your ‘Upload space used’. If your ‘Upload space used’ is close to or greater than your ‘Total Storage space available’ then you won’t be able to upload anything until you reduce the amount stored in your ‘Upload space used’.
To reduce your ‘Upload space used’ you need to:
- Go to Manage > Media Library and delete any images, documents, audio or video that you haven’t inserted into posts or pages
- Make sure that you resize all images from digital cameras before uploading to your blog
However if you are planning on uploading lots of large audio, video and document files to your blog you will need to be an Edublogs supporter because this will give you 5 GB of storage space.
