The Verse Block is for writing poetry and other literary work.

To add a verse block, click on the Block Inserter icon and type verse in the search field. You can also type /verse directly into a new paragraph block to quickly find the block and hit enter.

Here’s what it looks like when it’s added to the Block Editor.

More detailed instructions for adding blocks can be found here.

Block Toolbar

Each block has its own set of controls allowing you to edit the block from the editor. Clicking on the block reveals the verse block toolbar with the following options to choose from.

These options include:

  • Change Block Type & Styles
  • Change Alignment
    • Align left
    • Center
    • Align right
  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Hyperlink
  • More rich text controls
    • Inline Code
    • Inline image
    • Strikethough
    • Underline
  • More Options

The options available are similar to the paragraph block, however, the verse block allows you to add extra spaces between words as well as line-breaks within the block. This ensures that your text will display as it is typed. The final result might vary depending on the styles of your theme you are using.

Block Settings

Additional options for the verse block are located in the editor sidebar of the block editor. Click the ‘cog’ icon next to the Publish button if the sidebar is not visible.

In this case, for the Verse Block only Advanced Setting are offered.

The Advanced Tab lets you add a CSS class to your block allowing you to write custom CSS and style the block.
