Occasionally you only want the first part of certain posts to display on your blog post page and archive pages.  Some bloggers like to do this with long posts.

You can truncate your post entries using the More Block if you are using the block editor or using the Insert Read More Tag icon in your visual editor if using the classic editor.

A Continue Reading link, or Read More link, is place directly after your excerpt and readers click on the link to read the full post.

Here’s what it looks like on a blog post page.

Block Editor

The following section explains how to split content using the block editor. If you are using the classic editor, refer to split content using classic editor section.

1.  Go to Posts > Add New.

2.  Give your post a title and add your content.

3.  Place your cursor where you would like to cut off your post and add a More Block.

To add a More block to a post you click on the + icon at the left of any empty block or at the top left of the editor then search for More, or locate it in the Layout Elements section, and click on the More icon.

When you view your blog page (or an archive page) you’ll see a Read more or Continue reading link on the post.

Classic Editor

The following section explains how to split content using the classic editor. If you are using the block editor, refer to split content using the block editor section.

1.  Go to Posts > Add New.

4.  Click on the Insert Read More Tag icon.
